The Dorset Ooser Marathon
& Half Marathon
THE DORSET OOSER WAS SUCCESSFULLY HELD ON 16th AUGUST
WITH COVID-SAFE MEASURES IN PLACE.
Postponed until 16th AUGUST 2020
Now in its Third Year!
The Dorset Ooser Marathon & Half Marathon are fully signed challenging trail races in the heart of Dorset.
We provide great support, first-aid cover, free car parking, an entry fee that wont break the bank, toilets, free refreshment at the finish, medals for all finishers, 4 aid stations, and a Badger.
We wanted hills, we were sure you would demand mud, and we knew you'd love a route that will take you into parts of deepest darkest Dorset, via old tracks, hidden holloways, ancient woodlands, and forgotten trails.
As previous runners of these races will testify, the route is constantly changing, and never boring.
We wanted UTMB® points. (confirmed for 2020)
We wanted a weird name
We think we've nailed it with the Dorset Ooser -
If you haven't done it yet, take a chance and see what you think?
some of the best trails in dorset
The Races start from an ancient thatched barn in a historic tiny hamlet of Turners Puddle in the heart of Dorset.
The routes go straight uphill from the start, and then follow farm tracks, fields, trails that wind through ancient woodlands, old hidden holloways (sunken trails following historic drovers routes), short road sections through picturesque hamlets, managed woodland tracks, heathland, and all in the glorious Dorset countryside.
Despite all that lovely countryside though this race is not a pushover, as the previously earned 2 UTMB® points for the marathon (CONFIRMED FOR 2020) will testify. In the marathon there are 13 hills, around 1000m of elevation, a fair bit of mud to lose your trail shoes in, 7 stiles to clamber over while swearing, & 2 fords.
There is also though some great runnable sections that you can pick up some speed on.
The Races are predominantly trail.
The Marathon has a maximum of 3km (approx) in total of short tarmac sections, the longest being 1km.
The Half Marathon has a maximum of 2.4km (approx) in total of short tarmac sections, the longest being 1.4km.
There is a generous 8 hour cut off time limit on the Marathon and a 4.5 hour cut off for the Half Marathon.
Routes will be marked with a mixture of our own unique arrows, and red and white tape. There will be marshalls at road crossings and critical junctions. As back up You will be provided with a map of the route
There are 4 Aid station checkpoints on the marathon and 2 on the half marathon. All Aid stations will have shelter and will be stocked with basic provisions and currently all will have the same choice of items (revised and reduced due to covid); Water, squash, cola, crisps, salted snacks, flapjack, & jelly sweets. (we cannot guarantee the jelly sweets will be suitable for vegan runners).
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A CUPLESS RACE
What does this mean? - it means that in line with most european trail races and now many UK trail races we will NOT be providing disposable cups at the aid stations, this is to cut down on both litter and waste.
Aid station volunteers will be happy to fill your water bladders and bottles for you, but we recommend you obtain a re-usable cup for drinks at the aid stations. Something like one of these is ideal:
aid stations will be approx 7 - 8km apart at:
FARM - 7km Marathon only
CLYFFE HOUSE - 16km Marathon only
AFFPUDDLE - 24km Marathon / 8km Half
KITE HILL DAIRY - 32km Marathon / 16km Half
