About the route

Both races start from and finish at an ancient thatched barn in a historic tiny hamlet of Turners Puddle in the heart of Dorset.

The routes go straight uphill from the start, and then follow farm tracks, fields, trails that wind through ancient woodlands, old hidden holloways (sunken trails following historic drovers routes), short road sections through picturesque hamlets, managed woodland tracks, heathland, and all in the glorious Dorset countryside.

Despite all that lovely countryside though this race is not a pushover. In the marathon there are 13 hills, around 1000m of elevation, a fair bit of mud to lose your trail shoes in, 7 stiles to clamber over while swearing, & 2 fords.
The half boasts around 400m of elevation.

The Races are predominantly trail.

The Marathon has a maximum of 3km (approx) in total of short tarmac sections, the longest being 1km.

The Half Marathon has a maximum of 2.4km (approx) in total of short tarmac sections, the longest being 1.4km.

Routes will be marked with our own unique arrows.

As back up we provide gpx files of the route with your race instructions.

Marshals & Aid Stations

We endeavour to put marshals on all road crossings, and tricky route turnings.
There will be 2 sweepers in each race.

There are 4 Aid stations on the marathon and 2 on the half marathon.

Aid stations will have shelter and will be stocked with basic provisions and all will have the same choice of items.

THIS IS A CUPLESS RACE

In line with most european trail races and now many UK trail races we will NOT be providing disposable cups at the aid stations, this is to cut down on both litter and waste. Aid station volunteers will be happy to fill your water bladders and bottles for you, but we recommend you obtain a re-usable cup for drinks at the aid stations.

aid stations will be approx 7 - 8km apart at:

  • WEATHERBY CASTLE - 7km Marathon only

  • CLYFFE HOUSE - 16km Marathon only

  • AFFPUDDLE VILLAGE - 24km Marathon / 8km Half

  • KITE HILL DAIRY - 32km Marathon / 16km Half
